LIHU’E (AP) – A father and son who drowned in waters off Kauai on Saturday were visitors from Pennsylavania, officials said.
David Kitzmiller, 47, began struggling against a current at Marine Camp Beach between Hanamaulu and Wailua in Nukoli’i on the island’s eastern shore. Officials said the man’s 17-year-old son, Jeremy, swam out to help him and both were taken under.
Witnesses called 911 while David’s wife and 13-year-old daughter watched in horror, said Kauai Battalion Chief Bob Kaden.
The father was pronounced dead at the scene. The son was pronounced dead upon arrival at Wilcox Hospital.
The Kitzmillers are from Blairsville, Pa.
