New 2nd District Congressman Ed Case is questioning why four members of the administration of former Mayor Maryanne Kusaka have been given high-paying administrative jobs with the Transportation Security Administration at Lihu’e Airport.
Case said yesterday he is checking into whether the hirings were made through political connections, and whether the individuals hired are qualified for their jobs.
Private industry security screeners at Lihu’e Airport were replaced by federal security employees just weeks ago.
Case is also questioning how the job openings were advertised by the TSA. The job openings were apparently only posted on a TSA section of a federal jobs employment Web site.
Case is attempting to find out how many applicants the TSA had for each of the management jobs and how the hiring decisions were made.
