KAPA’A – When the Kaua’i Interscholastic Federation regular season begins, teams will have to figure out how to keep the Kaua’i Red Raiders from scoring over 70 points.
The Raiders reached that number in 6 preseason games this year, and clinched their second tournament without a loss after defeating the Academy of the Pacific 83-46 Saturday at the Kapa’a Basketball Tournament at Bernice Hundley Gymnasium.
The Raiders were 3-0 in the Waimea Invitational last weekend, defeating World of Life, Pahoa and Kaahumanou Hou – each by over 70 points. The Raiders continued in the Kapa’a Tournament with convincing wins over Kapa’a B, Academy of the Pacific and Assets Academy.
The other two KIF varsity teams, the Waimea Menehune and Kapa’a Warriors, were also 3-0 at the Bernice Hundley. The Warriors (5-1) are the only KIF team with a preseason loss.
Futi Tavana led the Raiders (6-0) with 25 points, Alec Reichle had 17 and Aukai Dennis 14. Rodney Sagucio was the fourth Raider player in double figures with 10 points.
Daniel Turner led Academy with 11 points, Ben Butler and Puna Kaopuiki each had 8 points and Colin Yokotake had 5.
