Lokahi takes 2nd in Maui

At a recent basketball tournament held at the Eddie Tam Gymnasium in Makawao, Maui, the Lokahi Girls, under the coaching of Kapa’a Middle School teachers, Terry McGuire and Fred Matayoshi, garnished a respectable second place finish.

A total of 10 teams were entered in the Hawaii Recreational & Parks Association Middle School Basketball Tournament for girls between the ages of 11-13 years old.

Also entering in the tournament from Kaua’i was the West Kaua’i Girls team under the direction of Clyde Vito, Jerry Refamonte and Russel Wellington. West Kaua’i played tough basketball but were eliminated by the defending champions, the Iao Girls Squad, who eventually topped the Lokahi Girls in the finals.

Recognized for their exceptional playing skills by being selected to the All Star Tournament Team: Cheri Kua of West Kaua’i and Mari Punzal of the Lokahi team.
