HONOLULU – The Hanapepe Broncos midget team completed another picture perfect season, and it ended Sunday with a 44-16 win over the Pearl City Highlands Colts in the Amos Nanoe Invitational Bowl at Aloha Stadium.
The Broncos finished the year with a perfect 9-0 record, capping their third straight undefeated season. The Broncos won the Midget division championships on Kaua’i in the years 2000, 2001 and 2002. Last year, the Broncos defeated a Big Island team at Hilo to win the Regional Championship.
Hanapape credits Head Coach Glenn Gaspar and his staff for a job well done in leading the Broncos to a divisional repeat. His players deserve a lot of credit, as well.
Much of the scoring in Hanapepe’s win over Pearl City came off plays made by Nash Danley, Poo Chang-Wo, Troy Acoba, Derrick Gonzales, Alan-Michael Gaspar, Joey Kilpatrick, and the rest of the Broncos, too many to mention.
The Broncos defense also played tough, limiting the Pearl City Highlands Colts to just 16 points.
For some of these boys this was their first experience playing on the astro turf of the Aloha stadium where the Big boys play.
For Coach Gaspar, this was his first time playing at Aloha Stadium in his 18 years as a coach.
The Hanapepe Broncos and the Pearl City Highland Colts were hosted to a meal after the game. The Northshore Na Alii and the Waimanalo Warriors were also treated to a great meal at the Aloha Stadium hospitality room. The Oahu Pop Warner handled the meals for the teams.

HONOLULU – The Northshore Na Alii Pee Wee team from Kauai also played in the Invitational Bowl game Saturday.
With 17 strong, the Na Alii of the Northshore Pop Warner took on the Waimanalo Warriors. They played tough football, but ultimately fell in the end.
The Warriors of Waimanalo had a 1-7 record, but played hard enough to pick up 20 points against the Na AliI of Kauai.
It was the Na Alii’s first time at the Aloha Stadium.
The Lihue Pop Warner football Association will finish their season this weekend on Oahu where they will play three (3) Oahu teams at Cooke Field at the University of Hawaii. These games will take place on Saturday.
