North Shore beaches closed because of high surf

The County of Kauai’s Ocean Safety Bureau closed beaches Tuesday from Hanalei to Polihale due to high surf.

The Kaua’i Fire Department reported no rescues or incidents Tuesday due to the high surf on the North Shore.

Kalani Vierra, the County’s Ocean Safety Bureau Supervisor, urges the public to exercise caution and stay out of the water in the closed areas. “Our lifeguards have reported forty foot wave faces in Ha’ena,” said Vierra.

Vierra was expected to announce this morning if beaches are to be reopened today.
