Heartbreak in Hilo

Hilo – The Waimea Menehune fell to Waiakea 13-15, 12-15 Wednesday in the first round of the 2002 Nissan Boys State Volleyball Championship at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo, Hawaii.

The two set loss sets up a 2 p.m., Friday consolation matchup with the #3 OIA representative Campbell Sabers.

Due to the late conclusion of the match, the game article will be included in Fridays edition of The Garden Island.

In other games on Wednesday, Ka’u defeated Leilehua 10-15, 15-8, 15-6, Mililani topped Maui High, 15-10, 15-11 and Iolani defeated Campbell, 15-3, 15-11.

In today’s games, Maui will face Campbell, Seabury Hall will meet Ka’u, Kamehameha will face Iolani, Pearl City will meet Waiakea and King Kealakehe will meet Mililani.
