A one-car traffic crash just after 4:10 a.m. Friday morning on Kahiliholu Road in Kilauea left the vehicle’s only passenger hospitalized, but details on his condition were not available.
A police report stated the victim ran off the roadway, struck and knocked over a steel pole and then struck a tree.
A passerby reported the incident to police. He said he first saw a tree in the roadway, but then saw a crashed vehicle facing the opposite direction of traffic.
The victim suffered head, neck and back injuries and was taken to the emergency room of Wilcox Memorial Hospital. He was reportedly transported to the Queen’s Medical Center on O’ahu for further treatment, but a spokeswoman for Queen’s said that no patient from Kaua’i had been admitted to their facility.
The other O’ahu hospital that treats transported patients for internal injuries is Straub Clinic & Hospital, but calls Friday afternoon weren’t immediately returned.
This story will be updated as further details are available.
