HANAPEPE – Walea Arquette ran for 157 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Waimea Menehune jayvee football team to a 20-7 win over the Kapa’a Warriors Friday night at Hananpepe Stadium.
Arquette rushed for touchdowns of 55 and 7 yards to help boost the Menehunes to a 2-0-1 record. The Warriors fell to 0-3 on the season.
Waimea amassed a total of 320 yards – 283 rushing and 37 passing. Running back Luke Tsuchiya rushed for 59 yards on 4 carries. Andrew Becklund ran for 40 yards on 7 carries.
Kapa’a amassed 81 total yards of offense. Running back Falcon Valeria rushed for 22 yards on 7 carries. Isaac Miyashiro ran for 23 yards on 7 carries.
Arquette began the Menehune ground assault on the second play of its initial drive. The nimble running back sprinted for a 55 yard touchdown to give Waimea an early lead.
The Warriors struck back in the second quarter. A 22-yard pass from Warrior quarterback Leo Calvan to Kaulana Kaye set up a one-yard Calvan TD sneak which tied the game at 7 apiece.
The Menehunes broke away in the final two periods.
Following a 4 carry, 25 yard pickup by Arquette, Menehune quarterback Thomas Batis completed a 10-yard TD pass to Justin Estes to put the Menehunes up 13-7. In the fourth, Arquette capitalized on a 34-yard Tsuchiya carry with his second TD of the game, a 7-yard dash to seal the win for Waimea.
