OAHU – Four Kauaians will be on the field at Aloha Stadium tonight in what has been billed the “Super Bowl” of high school football.
Bronson Carvalho, Travis Hermosura, Kaulana Lee and Makana Mardonada play for the St. Louis Crusaders and will face California powerhouse De La Salle in the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Football Classic.
The two teams will clash at 8 p.m., following a 5 p.m. showdown between Kahuku and Long Beach Poly.
Carvalho (junior – 6’2″, 280 pounds) and Mardonada (junior – 6’2″ 285 pounds) are starters for St. Louis. Carvalho, whose parents Bernard and Regina reside in Kapa’a, will play right offensive guard. Mardonada, son of Steven and Janis from Kapa’a, will play right tackle.
Hermosura (junior – 5’10”, 190 pounds), son of Togo and Ronanne of Hanalei, is a running back for the Crusaders. Lee (junior – 5’10” 200 pounds), whose parents Fenton and Winona reside in Koloa, is a defensive back.
The Kaua’i boys will face the top ranked football team in the Country tonight. De La Salle owns a national record 125-game winning streak.
