POIPU – Justin Leonard and Davis Love III have earned positions to compete in the elite foursome with U.S. Open and Masters champion Tiger Woods and PGA champion Richard Beem in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, which will be held Nov. 26-27 at Poipu Bay Golf Course on Kaua’i.
Ernie Els, winner of the British Open, is unable to compete due to scheduling conflicts and personal reasons.
Leonard sits at the top of the major champions points list with 253.5 points, earning him one of the alternate spots created by Woods’ two major titles. Love is third on the list with 188.5 points.
Leonard tied for 20th at the Masters, tied for 12th in the US Open, tied for 14th in the British Open and for 84th in the PGA Championship. He finished fourth in the 1997 PGA Grand Slam of Golf.
Love tied for 14th in the Masters and British Open, shared 24th in the U.S. Open, and was 48th in the PGA Championship. His Grand Slam resume includes a third place finish in 1997 and a second place finish in 2000.
The major champions point list is composed of past major champions who competed in the 2002 majors. The PGA Grand Slam of Golf features a total purse of $1 million, with the Champion earning $400,000. The 36-hole stroke-play event is broadcast on TNT.
