Columbia, Mo. – William Woods’ Sophomore setter Heather Roberts was named the NAIA Region V Setter-of-the-Week for the week of September 2-8, 2002.
Roberts, from Koloa, Kaua’i, led the Owls to a 5-0 mark in its blazing start, including a 3-2 win over the 14th ranked Olivet Nazarene University Tigers in the Best Western Cougar Volleyball Classic played last weekend at Columbia College. Roberts tallied 424 assists during the week in addition to 99 digs, 26 service aces and 10 kills.
William Woods, ranked 27th in the latest NAIA National Poll, ran their record to 9-1 Tuesday, defeating cross-town rival Westminster College 3-0. The win, in front of a large and vocal gathering, was the eighth in succession for the Owls.
Roberts was an integral member of a 2000 Kaua’i team which ended the Waimea Menehune’s 28 years of dominance in KIF volleyball. The Menehunes had won 28 consecutive titles, harnessing the streak since 1972. It was the first time the Kaua’i Red Raiders attended the HHSAA Championship, and it led to a dominant 2001 campaign for the Raiders, whose repeat KIF title followed a dominant 8-0 regular season record.
