Sumiko Hamabata

Sumiko Arashiro Hamabata founder and owner of the Green Garden Restaurant in Hanapepe, Kaua’i, died at home on Sept 10, 2002.

Botn to Jinso and Uto Arashiro in Kapaa on Oct. 12, 1921, Mrs. Hamabata was educated at Kekaha Elementary, Hawaii Mission Academy and Waimea High School.

Mrs. Hamabata was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Kenji Hamabata, and eldest son, Michaelson Yukio Hamabata. She is survived by sons, Mitchell Hamabata and Matthews Hamabata and daughters, Gwen and Marla Hamabata, and hanai daughter, Kelli Nishimura Minatoya.

She is also survived by brothers, Yone Arashiro and Take Arashiro and sister, Natsuko Matsuda; her Aunty Yamasato, sisters-in-law, Tome (Kenneth) Arashiro, Gladys (Richard) arashiro, and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Friends may visit with the family at 3 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, at the Hanapepe United Church of Christ; service officiated by Pastor Mitchell Young will begin at 4 p.m. Casual attire is suggested

Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.

Takashi Fujimoto

Takashi Fujimoto of Koloa, Kauai, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Sept. 12, 2002 at the age of 78.

Born in Koloa, Kauai on Oct. 11, 1923, he was a body and fender repairman at Lihue Motors Co.

He is survived by wife, Fusae; son, Clayton Fujimoto of Koloa, Kauai; three daughters, Sandra (Eric) Kawasugi of Oahu, Lynette (Albert) Muranaka of Lihue, Kauai and Denise Forsen of Kapa’a, Kaua’i; five grandchildren; Brandon Kapahu; Gavin Muranaka, Allyn Muranaka, Cole Forsen & Cale Forsen; brother, Robert (Mildred) Fujimoto of Hawaii; two sisters, Elaine Uchima and Gail (Walter) Kawano both of Oahu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may visit with the family at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Koloa Missionary Church; service officiated by Pastor Niles Kageyama will begin at 4 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.
