Mitsugi Muraoka

Mitsugi “Mitaru” Muraoka of Koloa, Kauai, died at home on Aug. 23, 2002, at his home at the age of 97.

Born in Lawai, Kauai on Feb. 15, 1905, he retired as a Harvesting Supervisor from Koloa Plantation.

Preceded in death by his wife, Matsue Matsumoto Muraoka, he is survived by two sons, Dennis (Sheilah) Muraoka of Koloa, Kauai and Eddie (Birdie) Muraoka of Honolulu, Oahu; four daughters, Shirley (Del) Harmon of Virginia, Ruth Siu of Kalaheo, Kauai, Gladys Muraoka of Koloa, Kauai and June (Roger) Muraoka-Jones of Koloa, Kauai; six grandchildren: Douglas Muraoka of Koloa, Dustin Taguado of Honolulu, Neal Muraoka of Waipahu, Harrison Muraoka of Honolulu, Carla (Jon) Kida of Honolulu, and Ben (Jessica) Harmon of Michigan; four great-grandchildren; brother, Ikito (Nancy) Muraoka of Koloa, Kauai; two sisters, Sue Goon of Pennsylvania and Hitoe Kamm of Honolulu, Oahu.

Friends may visit with the family at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1, at the Koloa Jodo Mission; service officiated by Rev. Ishikawa will begin at 11 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.

Julia Lizama

Julia Lizama of Kapaa, Kaua’i, died Aug. 28, 2002, at Wilcox Hospital, at the age of 98.

A retired school teacher, she was born Jan. 23, 1904, in Kapaa, Kauai.

She is survived by one daughter: Anne (Robert) Noguchi of Kapaa; one son: Buddy (Marian) Lizama of Kapaa and one brother: Joseph Rodrigues of Kapaa; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapaa from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. where Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Catherine’s Church Cemetery.

Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kauai Mortuary.
