HONOLULU – Twelve year-old Punahou resident Stephanie Kono leads the pack but Kaua’i’s Rachel Kyono is just one stroke behind after the second day of the HSWGA 2002 Stroke Play Championships at Mid-Pacific Country Club in Honolulu.
The tournament’s third and final round will take place today at Mid-Pacific, tee times beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Kono shot a 71 in the first round, played Tuesday, and a 75 in the second round, played Wednesday, to lead the board with a 146. Kyono, a sophomore at Pepperdine University, shot rounds of 73 and 74 for a 147. She is currently tied with 13-year old Britney Choy, also with a 147.
Lihue’s Lehua Wise struggled on day one, shooting an 83 for 11th on the scoreboard. But she scorched back on day two with a 69, the lowest round any golfer shot so far in the tourney. She’s currently in 8th place.
