HSJGA Junior Tour Series held at Wailua

The Hawaii State Junior Golf Association’s Jr. Series hosted a tournament for ages 7-18 at the Wailua Golf Course on Tuesday, July 16.

The tourney featured several golfers from both on and off-island, one of them, Michael Pecsok, came from California.

In the 7-10 age group, Kaua’i’s Wiley Yoshioka took top honors with a 44 for nine holes. He was followed by Oahu’s Ryne Mizushima, who scored a 47.

Kauaian Rae-lyn Morikawa topped the Girls 7-10 bracket with a nine-hole score of 49; Taylor Viquelia scored 61 to take second place.

Travis Toguchi, another Kauian junior golfer, shot a 37 front nine and 38 back to score an impressive 75 – good enough for first place in the Boys 11-12 age group. Oahu’s Mason Davis shot an 81.

Makana Sakihama was the sole girl in the 11-12 bracket – her 44 front and 49 back gave her a 93.

Kauaians Mike Garcia and Kellen Watabu took the top two spots for the Boys 13-14 division. Garcia shot a 36 and 39 for a 75; Watabu’s 37 and 40 landed him a 77.

Oahu’s Kayla Morinaga shot a 35 front and 36 back for a 71, good enough for the leader spot on the scoreboard in the Girls 14-under bracket; Kaua’i’s Miki Ueoka shot a 38 and 37 for a 75, which put her in second place.

In Boys 15-18, Christopher Souza of Oahu shot a 35 and 36 for a 71. Kaua’i’s Chris Caycayon was one stroke back of Souza with a 72.

Maui’s Kelly Nakashima, the only girl in the 15-18 bracket, shot a 45 and 39 for an 84.
