Rebecca Mikala Kekahu of Anahola died July 5, 2002, at the age of 78.
Born in Waimea, Hawai’i, she was a retired paramedical assistant for the state of Hawai. Following her retirement from the State, she was a Kupuna in the public schools, teaching the Hawaiian language. She was also involved with Koani Foundation for the education of people on the plight of the Hawaiian people.
She is survived by son: Jonathan (Lillian) Kawika Kekahu, of Anahola; daughters: Rowena Smith of Anahola and Rhoda (Reuben) Simeona of Hilo; brothers: David (Margaret) Koani of Honolulu and Moses and George Koani, both of Waimea; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild.
Service is scheduled for Saturday, July 20, at 7:30 p.m. at Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
