Kathleen Furushima
Kathleen R. Furushima of Kalaheo, Kaua’i, died in Colorado on June 19, 2002 at the age of 52.
Born in Waimea, Kaua’i, on Dec. 20, 1949, she was a receptionist with Kaua’i Community Federal Credit Union.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis of Kalaheo; son, Chad of Henderson, NV.; daughter, Holly of Portland, OR.; father, Kenji Ijima of Kaumakani; step-mother, Evelyn Furushima; brother, Lance (Conchetta) Ijima of Wailua.
Friends may visit with the family at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; service officiated by Rev. Sakamoto will begin at 4 p.m. Casual attire is sugtested and that flowers be omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Hisae Odo
Hisae Odo of Waimea, Kauai, died at home on July 3, 2002 at the age of 79.
Born in Waimea, Kauai on Feb. 10, 1923, she was a Clerk at Woolworth’s.
She is survived by three brothers, Kiichi (Kimi) Odo of Waimea, Kauai, Yoso (Lois) Odo of Kailua, Oahu and Seiichi (Kathy) Odo of Los Angeles, CA.; sister, Nancy (Frank) Nomura of Oahu. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Services were private.
Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Louise Nesbitt
Louise G. Nesbitt also known as Lulu and Sally Lou of Kapa’a, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, on July 8, 2002, at the age of 72.
Born in St. Louis, MO on July 12, 1929 she was a housewife and retired Reg. Nurse in California.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph C. Nesbitt of Santa Paula, CA, one son: Col. Joseph Grafe Nesbitt, US Army Fort Bragg, North Carolina; two daughters: Alexandra Swartz of Santa Paula, CA; Cate Austin of Kapa’a and Indian Wells, CA. 5 grandchildren: Jeffrey Hoskins, Joey Cortes, Paul, Kristin & Mark Nesbitt; two sisters: Helen Nussbaum of California and Paula Gavin of California.
Charlotte Closson
Charlotte Marie Clossen of Anahola, died on July 3, 2002, at the age of 78.
She was born in Portland, Ore. Formerly a social worker, who worked with children, she then owned and operated her own clothing retail shop.
She is survived by her daughters: Carole (Domi) Ragsac of Anahola and Linda Kemp of Hayward, Calif. and sister: Doris (Jack) Casey of Portland, Ore. There are five grandchildren.
Services will be at Kapa’a Missionary Church on Saturday, July 13, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.
Joseph Lee
Joseph Lee of Kalaheo, died at Kaua’i Care Center on June 24, 2002, at the age of 89.
Born in Honolulu, on March 29, 1913, he was a security guard at Punahou School.
He is survived by his wife: Miriam Williams Lee of Waimea; two sons; Joseph K. (Teresa) Lee of Honolulu and John H. (Karen) Lee of Kalaheo. There are two grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are his brothers: Matthew Lee, Paul Lee and John Lee, and sisters; Clara Mankee and Eleanor Lee.
Visitation will be at Kapahula Bible Church on Saturday, July 13, at 1:30 p.m. with services at 2 p.m. Aloha attire is suggested and flowers omitted.
George Akana, Jr.
George Arthur Akana Jr., died in Honolulu on June 13, 2002, at the age of 50. He was owner of Video Image Projection and vice president of Allied Crafts, IATSE, Local 665.
He is survived by his wife Leonelle, sons; Umi and Koa; mother: Ione Peters Akana and brother; Kevin M. Akana.
Memorial service and inurnment will be on Saturday, July 13, at Christ Memorial Episcopal church in Kilauea at 10:30 p.m.
