The Kaua’i Fire Raiders and the Kaumakani Supersonics each won in the KYBA 14-under girls playoffs held at Kalaheo NC Gymnasium on Thursday.
Rachel Taira scored 10 points to lead the Fire Raiders to a 31-24 win over the Westside Hornets. Randi Ortiz led the Hornets with eight points.
In the second game, Hokulea Knapp Magno scored 10 points to lead the Supersonics to a 26-11 win over the Kapa’a 76ers. Vania Singleterry led the 76ers with eight points.
The Championship of the 14-under girls took place Saturday. The Supersonics went on to hold off the Raiders 23-12 for the title. Third place honors went to the Westside Hornets, who took a 20-17 win over the 76ers. An extended story on the games will be printed in Monday’s TGI edition.
In Boys 10—under action held on Tuesday, the Westside Riders and Kaumakani Supersonics each went home victors.
Kyle Delima scored nine points to lead the Riders to a 29-21 win over the Blackhawks. Cody Morden led the Blackhawks with 10 points.
In the second game, Aiko Grande scored nine points to lead the Kaumakani Supersonics to a 27-18 win over the Eastside Warriors. Brandon Ventar led the Warriors with eight points.
There was a third game on Tuesday night, another Girls 14-under matchup.
The Kaumakani Supersonics got 10 points from Sheila Ramos and Hokulea Knapp-Magno in its 33-29 win over the Kaua’i Fire Raiders. Tahnee Shigematou led the Raiders with seven points.
