Making Waves swimwear shop opens at Po’ipu center

Seeing headless torsos sporting the latest in swimwear hanging from the ceiling frolicking around an upside-down swimming pool should tell you one thing for certain:

Making Waves is not your ordinary swimwear store.

Still bringing swimwear and other items out of boxes at the Poipu Shopping Village location is the staff of Making Waves, a new swimwear store.

It has some typical furnishings, too, like rack after rack of the most modern swimwear and accessories, and photos of models young and not-as-young sporting the latest swimwear styles.

Open seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. (the mall closes at 7 p.m. Sunday, but the shop may stay open later), the Kaua’i Making Waves location is the third for parent company Maui Clothing Company.

Making Waves has Waikiki and Waikoloa (Big Island) locations, and offers only the latest designs and styles from top swimwear designers.

The Kaua’i store opened at the end of last month.

With top swimwear designers and sizes to fit children up to mature women, Making Waves focuses on swimwear separates.

The shop caters to hard-to-fit figures, be they juniors, misses, and others, with different sizes and styles in tops and bottoms, including bandeaus, padded tops, string tops, high-waist bottoms, thongs, boys shorts, tankinis, and more, from names like Athena, Malibu, OP, Guess and Ultimate Separates.

For the mature woman, WaterWear offers a conservative approach with a bit more coverage. Designers and name brands like La Blanca, Robby Len, Leilani, Sessa, Girl Star, Maxine, Jantzen, Raisins and Tommy Bahama are offered.

The shop also has a large assortment of hats, bags, slippers, and other high-quality sun products to protect the skin.
