Stuck in a three-way tie the week before, the K-Makules topped the Rookies in the game following a Lihue A’s loss on Saturday, which boosted its record to 6-1 – one game ahead of both the Rookies and the A’s.
Daido Paiste got the win and Archie Fontanilla took the loss in the K-Makules 9-6 win over The Rookies.
Guy Ruiz smacked a homerun on two hits, and Ben Pescador and Lefty Remata each had two hits.
For The Rookies, Dickie Sialana had one homerun on three hits; Wally Sonoda and Nellie Mendonca each notched two hits.
In the first game on Saturday, the A’s fell 9-8 to West Kauai.
Frank Bukoski got the win for West Kauai; Buster Matsumura took the loss.
“Brudda” Rittmiester, Paul Parangao and Mac Pacheco each paired hits for West Kauai.
Dwight Fujii, Glenn Akina and Joe Munachika each had two hits for Lihue.
In the second game, Kawaihau stunned East Kauai 12-11 to pick up its first win of the second round.
Teddy Daligdig picked up his first win and smacked three hits for Kawaihau. Don Boro also had three hits and Paul Awazu added two.
Ronnie Holt was the losing pitcher, but went a perfect 4-4 at the plate. Jason Ipac and Alex Youn each knocked out a homer and Steve Lisama had three hits.
Saturday’s games @ Kaumakani: Rookies host East Kauai in game one; the K-Makules face the Lihue A’s in game two; West Kauai meets Kawaihau in the third game.
