Debborrah Gia, an advertising sales representative, has been promoted to promotions manager at The Garden Island.
In her new position, she is responsible for creating, organizing and implementing all promotions for the daily newspaper.
The focus of the promotions will be on niche markets, she said. She will continue to sell advertising to businesses in the Lihu’e area, as well as space in Kauai Publishing Company’s visitor publication, the Kauai Beach Press.
Gia started with The Garden Island in 1997 in advertising sales, taking some time off to pursue other endeavors before returning.
She brings to her new position over 20 years of newspaper advertising experience, working for several Copley newspapers in the Los Angeles area before moving to Kaua’i.
Gia holds a bachelor’s degree in business and marketing, and a certificate in travel industry.
She attributes her success in the industry to her organization and time-management skills.
“The ability to listen to the clients’ needs, suggest a marketing plan and implementation plan, are of utmost importance in succeeding in advertising sales,” she said.
She has several tips for composing a successful advertising plan:
– A clear and concise message;
– Less is more: white space sells;
– Offer value and deliver service;
– Repeat your advertising message.
In her spare time, Gia enjoys playing tennis, and assisting partner Thomas Niblick in their new business, The Printmaker, a digital graphic design business in Kukui Grove Professional Center.
She may be reached at 245-3681, ext. 223.
