No less than seven people have taken out papers to run for Kaua’i mayor, though only one, County Councilmember Randal G.B. Valenciano, has filed papers for that office.
Fellow County Councilmember Bryan J. Baptiste, community activist Raymond L. Chuan, perennial candidate Gregory I. Goodwin of Hanalei, Council Chair Ronald D. Kouchi, small businessman Lloyd Jeffrey Mallan, and businessman Dennis S. Nimkie have all taken out papers to run for mayor.
And we are still well over a month from the filing deadline date of Tuesday, July 23.
Mallan has also taken out papers to run for County Council, both U.S. House of Representative seats, the state Senate seat now covering all of Kaua’i and Ni’ihau, and state Representative seat for east and north Kaua’i.
Take a deep breath, now, because there are 27 candidates for County Council (not counting Valenciano, who took out papers for council but filed papers to run for mayor).
