Kauai’s own Jeremy Fry clinched the 1st place in the Amateur Men division of the Wipika Waddell Kiteboarding Clash held from May 16, through May 19 in Santa Cruz, California.
Fry competed in the cold waters of Waddell Creek, making it tough for competition for all kiteboarders who came to show their top-notch wave riding abilities.
The event housed 65 competitors from all around the world who showed up for three days of the best wave riding on the West Coast.
Fry completed two solid days of kiting with three rounds of amatuer men under winds averaging 25-30 knots.
The amatuer men division was made up of new comers to competing and a few that came back for more of what Waddell could dish out.
Sixteen amatuer men competed in three single elimination rounds on Friday and Saturday with the result of Jeremy Fry placing 1st overall.
Fry is sponsored by Wipika Kites and Boards, DaKine, Ultra Nectar, and Barrs Fish Taco Bus.
Fry, also known as “Fly Guy,” has only been kiting for a year and a half, when most competitors whether amatuer or pro have been kiting for up to 3-7 years.
Keep your eye on the Fly Guy at popular kite and wind surfing locations on the Garden Island as he boosts big air, rides waves, and pulls tricks that will make your head spin.
Fry is scheduled to compete in the Gorge Games at Hood River, or and on Maui in the King of the Air Contest this summer and fall.
