Sherwin Perez “Kaleo” Perez, Jr., the son of Sherwin Perez Sr. and Kathy Perez, of Hanamaulu was named to the Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc All-American First Team in April of this year.
Participants in the Pop Warner program who were named as a first team or second team all-American scholar from across the country were honored at the annual Pop Warner Little Scholar’s Inc. banquet.
This year the banquet was held at the Coronado Springs Hotel at Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida.
Approximately six hundred Pop Warner players and cheerleaders out of over three hundred sixty thousand participants were selected as either a first team or second team all-American.
The top thirty-five football players and top eighteen cheerleaders who were in the eighth grade and above were recognized as senior scholars and were eligible to receive college scholarships.
Kaleo attended the national banquet along with his father and newly appointed Vice Regional Director for the Wescon Region, Edmund Acoba.
Kaleo was one of two recipients who received a five thousand dollar ($5000) from the NFL Players, Inc.
Kaleo is presently completing the eighth grade at Cheifess Kamakahele middle school and will be attending the Kamehameha Schools this coming fall.
Kaleo has played football for Lihue Pop Warner Association for the past three years.
