Into the third and final round of Major Division play in Kawaihau Community Little League, the Astros, Dodgers and Mets all picked up wins this past week.
– On Thursday, May 23, the Mets won out over hosts Diamondbacks, 16-1.
Everett Awong went the distance for the Diamondback picking up six strikeouts in four innings of play.
Travis Shigeta was the winning pitcher for the Mets, striking out nine batters in four innings. Dante Bisson hit a single for the Diamondbacks in the bottom of the first but was unable to score.
In the bottom of the fourth, T.J. Tacbian was hit by a pitch to get on base and scored on Kenny Fejeder’s sacrifice RBI.
For the Mets, five runs were scored in the first inning by a double by Harry Noone and singles by Wesley Abalos, James Noone, Travis Shigeta, Chandler Jacinto and Amanda Mayer and a sacrifice RBI by Randall Jacinto. Maegan Pablo started an offensive rally in the bottom of the fourth for the Mets with a walk and came around to score on Daniel Lizama’s sacrifice RBI.
– On Friday, May 24, the Mets edged out the Yankees 2-1 in extra innings to clinch the Major Division Championship title.
The game was tied 1-1 after a six-inning pitching duel by Jacob Planas of the Yankees who gave up only three hits and struck out seven batters and Harry Noone of the Mets who gave up four hits and had ten strikeouts.
Micah Rapozo and Aaron Villatora came on in relief for the Yankees, with Aaron striking out two batters.
James Noone picked up the win for the Mets, striking out three batters in two innings.
After getting on base with a single, Kilika Dettloff scored the lone run for the Yankees in the top of the third on Kaleo Kaui’s scorcher triple.
The Mets were scoreless until the bottom of the sixth, when Travis Shigeta who walked scored after an error placed Chander Jacinto on base and Amanda Mayer and Leilani Laranio also walked.
The Mets finally won after eight innings, when Randall Jacinto who made it on base on a fielder’s choice scored after being advanced by a decisive single by Daniel Lizama and walks by Bradson Hiranaka and Harry Noone.
– In the first of two games on Saturday, May 25, the Dodgers picked up a win over the Yankees, 4-1.
Bryston Rapozo went the distance for the Yankees, striking out three batters.
CJ Maglinti was the winning pitcher for the Dodgers, also with three strikeouts.
The Dodgers scored one run in the top of the second after Jocelyn Enrique got on base with a single and came around to score after being advanced by Doogie Kupihea’s single and CJ Maglinti’s RBI single.
The Dodgers also scored two runs in the top of the third. Grayson Gonsalves opened with a double and scored on Matt Ornellas RBI single. Matt also scored on a double by William Valente-Gonsalves.
A fourth run was tallied in the top of the fourth when Evan Lotu, who doubled, was brought home by Jocelyn Enrique’s RBI single. The Yankees’ run came in the bottom of the fourth when Kaleo Kaui who singled to get on base came home after Aaron Villatora sacrificed and Micah Fernandes walked.
– In the second game on Saturday, the Astros beat out the Diamondbacks, 10-0.
Stephanie Kawamura pitched a no-hitter for the Astros, striking out three batters in four innings of play.
Dante Bisson went the distance for the Diamondbacks with six strikeouts.
Hot bats for the Astros were Alex Sandlin and Stevie Lutz each with a single and a double.
Other hits came from a double by James Hennessy, a single by Tyler Hadley and a double by Chris Sandobal.
