Computers can be programmed to do the darndest things, including telling you your vacation day in paradise is too chock full of things to do.
In cases like that, the Web-based adventure planner, designed for those staying in the Po’ipu area, will also automatically recommend planning another, less-hectic day.
After all, it is for those on vacation.
With the Web-based adventure planner, conceived for the Poipu Beach Resort Association by those fertile minds at Tsunami Marketing, Kaua’i visitors can plan what to do for each of their vacation days, in advance of arrival.
By selecting from over 50 Kaua’i activities, users of the planner, at http://poipuadventure.com, can be told activity time and drive time, and have activities matched with vacation calendars.
Naturally, intended visitors can print out daily schedules well in advance of arriving on Kaua’i.
The site makes use of Flash technology, allowing users to read about any one of 56 different activities, ranging from sports to entertainment to relaxation to cultural experiences.
The potential visitor may drag the activity into a planned vacation day on the site’s calendar, print an itinerary, and link to activity providers. Activity time and driving time for the full day is calculated.
An advisory pops up if the day is too full, with a recommendation to plan another day.
The project took nine months of extensive programming, copy-writing, photo-searching and planning.
The brain-child of Tsunami Marketing, of Koloa, the Web site was created in response to PBRA’s need to serve up a wide range of experiences to the potential visitor, and help them plan their vacation, according to PBRA Executive Director Margy Parker.
The PBRA is also in discussion with the Hawaii Tourism Authority about potential cooperation and support. PBRA is a 147-member, nonprofit organization located on Kaua’i’s south shore.
