Close to the airport and harbor, on purpose, and now the southernmost and westernmost motorcycle rental business on the island, Two Wheels Rentals along Rice Street in Nawiliwili recently opened for business.
Offering Harley-Davidson motorcycles for rent and a special rental program for visiting Harley owners and club members, Two Wheels Rentals is owned and operated by the same company that owns and operates Two Wheels in Waipouli.
The Waipouli location is the only authorized dealer of new and used Harley-Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Vespa and MUZ (Mosquito) motorcycles and mopeds on Kaua’i.
The Nawiliwili outlet, located between Kalapaki Beach Hut and the Little Gas Shack across from Harbor Mall and across Nawiliwili Stream from Anchor Cove, celebrated its blessing last week.
The Rev. Richard Kamanu did the honors.
The Nawiliwili location has three motorcycles dedicated to Harley’s Fly and Ride program for Harley owners and club members, who can make reservations to ride in paradise before arriving on the island.
Almost before the maile had been cut to officially open the store, a couple from Anaheim became the first to rent a hog through the Fly and Ride program.
According to Barbara Short, Two Wheels Rentals manager, the owners of Two Wheels Waipouli had wanted to start a rental business, but didn’t have the room at its Pouli Road location near Waipouli Town Center and the Kapa’a fire station.
They found a central location, close to the airport as a selling point for its T-shirts and line of Harley aloha shirts and other accessories (perfect take-home gifts for visitors), and strategically located just a five-minute walk from Nawiliwili Harbor, where the cruise ships dock, she said.
It is the only motorcycle rental shop on Kaua’i outside Kapa’a and Waipouli, she stated.
Tom Leighton, one of the founders of Two Wheels Waipouli and now general sales manager of the Waipouli location, said the Nawiliwili location is part of Two Wheels’ growing commitment to Kaua’i.
Robbie Reneau, sales associate at Two Wheels Waipouli, noted that the Nawiliwili location is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Moped rentals will also be available in Nawiliwili once all of the final arrangements have been worked out, Reneau said.
In addition to the rental service, the shop offers a line of Harley-Davidson clothing and accessories, including shirts that chronicle the history of the motorcycle line in Hawai’i.
Both Two Wheels locations are owned and operated by Cycle City, which is owned and operated by Joe Nicolai. Brad Nicolai, a company vice president and son of Joe Nicolai, was on hand for the Nawiliwili location’s blessing.
John Winslett, vice president and general manager of Cycle City on O’ahu, is also involved in both Two Wheels operations on Kaua’i, Short said.
