After hauling in over 2,700 marijuana plants in the first day, the Kauai Police Department and friends completed a three-day eradication effort by uprooting 4,868 plants, from seedlings to mature, budding trees.
The eradication effort, informally known as “green harvest” operations for several decades, involves identifying the illegal plants from the air, and dropping in officers from helicopters to pull the plants.
No arrests were made.
The operation was run Tuesday through Thursday this week, and KPD vice officers were assisted by state Department of Land and Natural Resources enforcement personnel, and members of the Hawaii Army National Guard and Maui Police Department.
