WAILEA, Maui – Some Kaua’i Interscholastic Federation (KIF) Tennis players won, and others lost in the first round of the 2002 Carlsmith Ball State Tennis Championships on Thursday.
The KIF winners:
The Kaua’i Red Raider double team of Ronald Hosaka and Chad Naganuma beat Molokai’s Paulele Alcon and Hatea Paoa in a strenuous 5-7, 7-6(3), 7-5 game.
And Raiders Hokulani Jordan and Jennifer Kawaguchi topped Kealakehe’s Susanna Tarbill and Ali Svechak in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 6-2).
The KIF losers:
In boys singles, Hawaii Prep’s Jon Roberts defeated Kaua’i Red Raider Ian White 6-1, 6-2 to move on. Kahuku’s Thaigo De Oliveira beat Raider Joshua Miyamoto 6-1, 6-1. And Casey Kadohiro of Konawaena beat Kaua’i’s Michael Hirahara 6-2, 6-2.
In boys doubles, McKinley’s Francisco Barba and Michael Liu topped Bryce Hosaka and Kurt Teichman 6-1, 6-1. And Gary Nacapuy and Dexter Corpuz of Waipahu beat Warriors Kia Tom and Garrett Danner 6-2, 6-2
In girls singles, Angela Langsi of Konawaena defeated Raider Shannon Bulloch 6-0, 6-0. Pearl City’s Erin Gaza topped Kapa’a’s Raysha Sadang 6-0, 6-1.
And in Girl’s doubles,
Punahou’s Erin Katayamaand Crystal Shimabukuro topped Shantelle DeMille and Tiana Laranio (Kapa’a) 6-1, 6-1.
