The Kauai Police Department has identified the man found dead Tuesday at Fujii Beach in Kapa’a as Charles Emmet Carson, Jr., 41, of Las Vegas, Nevada.
An autopsy performed Wednesday revealed that the victim drowned, and police have classified the death as accidental. The identity of the victim was not known at the time the body was recovered. Detectives assigned to the case confirmed the man’s identity Wednesday.
Carson was visiting Kaua’i with friends and was staying at a condominium in the Kapa’a area.
His death is the second drowning on Kaua’i in 2002.
The first drowning of 2002 occurred off Queen’s Bath on the coast below Princeville. The victim in that incident was a male visitor, 44, from Mass.
