Wailua Kryptonite 2
The luck of the Irish could be seen in action on St. Patty’s Day, especially for Rob Siemers and Eli Emery. Both players had two goals for their respective teams, scored by a combination of skill and four leaf clovers.
Eli put the Westside in the lead during the first half, two to nothing. His first goal came from a beautiful cross from the once goalie Mark Perales, whos ability to make plays happen, has landed him on the front line for the Burners. Darren Kosen, Marks replacement in the net has been playing the position well, shutting down numerous one on one rushes. Eli Emery got an open net goal when he stole the ball from the Wailua defense, and shot it past the goal keeper, who was out of position.
Rob Siemers ship took off during the second half. Besides playing solid in the midfield, he collected the rebound off Eddie Adams shot and kicked it in making it a one point game. Then right as the game was wearing down he let a shot off like a Roman Candle, to the upper corner making a tie game, 2-2. The Westside Afterburners are coming on as the playoffs are approaching.

The rain came down hard as the players made their way from around the island to the Wailua Homesteads field. Everyone knew it would be a slippery and fast paced game under those conditions. The slippery field meant trouble for the goal-keepers, who had difficulty controlling the ball throughout the contest.
Hanalei goalie Bobby Tangelder clearly had the biggest problem as he let in both of the Afterburners goals because of his errors. Bobby, who typically is a sharp netminder, whiffed trying to punch out a ball, and Adrian Nichols pushed his way through the defense to tap the ball in.
Later in the first half, Mark Perales took a shot on Tangelder, who let the ball go right off his legs and back out to Adrian, who scored a second goal for the ‘Burn.
In the second half, Hanalei came alive, charging the net and winning every ball out of the air (Doug Loper). Anthony Tangelder, son of struggling goalie, redeemed his father and their family name, by side volleying in a bouncing ball. The ball had been thrown in by Cola Lindman, and the Westside keeper had knocked the ball out to Anthony. Cola assisted in the next goal, getting the ball out to Devin Herlihy who waited out at the edge of the eighteen yard line. Devin’s shot threaded the needle through the traffic in front of the net and tied the game two all.
The league standings are tight and the next few games will decide who is this seasons champion. A fourth team can be added if anyone wants to start a team.
