The records show an interesting finale to the first round of the KIF baseball season, and “seventh-inning” baseball seems to be the appropriate trend.
The Kapa’a Warriors and Kaua’i Red Raiders split its double-header at Vidinha Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The split didn’t change the standings structure in terms of balance: The Red Raiders top the list at 3-2; Kapa’a follows one game behind with a 2-2 record; and the Waimea Menehunes trail by two games, 2-3.
The Red Raiders scored four runs in the first inning and committed no errors to defeat Kapa’a 9-4 in the first game of the double-header.
Scott Serizawa went a perfect 4-4 with one RBI; Itamura notched two rbi’s in two hits and three at-bats. Alec Reichle went 2-3 with three runs.
Pitcher Jake Oketani (1-1) pitched the distance, punching seven strikeouts and allowing nine Warrior hits. Kyle Newberger (1-1), who allowed seven runs in four innings, got the loss.
In the second game, the Red Raiders notched 14 hits in 35 at bats but couldn’t get their runners home in the seventh to fall 8-7.
Jesse Noone went 1-4 with two RBI’s. Tyler Wakuta, Keoni Nakano, Tyson Cremer and Kaili Panui each notched one RBI.
Tyler Wakuta (1-0), who came in for relief in the final inning, used an effective fastball to get the win; Alec Reichle gets his first loss (2-1) of the season.
Waimea and Kapa’a will face off at the Ron Martin Baseball Stadium on Wednesday in another KIF baseball showdown.
The game is slated to start at 2:30 p.m.
