The state Department of Transportation has planned an informational meeting at the Wai’oli Hui’ia Church Mission Hall in Hanalei on Wednesday, April 10 to discuss a plan to improve parts of Kuhio Highway from Princeville to Ke’e Beach in Ha’ena.
The DOT’s Highways Division Office with the Kauai District Office is developing a Comprehensive Roadway Corridor Plan for Route 560 in response to community concerns about the compatibility of the improvements with the rural lifestyle of the area, according to a DOT representative on O’ahu.
Steve Kyono, who heads the Kaua’i DOT Highways Division office, said “we are going to start the whole discussion and get the dialogue going, (and) find out what the public has to say.”
Elements of the plan – planning process and the scheduling and community participation program – are planned to be discussed during the meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m.
Subsequent meetings will be scheduled to include community input into the plan and discussions of the project’s findings, progress and recommendations, according to the DOT.
Persons requiring special accommodations – large print materials or sign language interpreters – are asked to make their request at least 72 hours before the meeting.
For more information about the meeting, contact the Kaua’i DOT office at 274-3111.
