HANAPEPE – Kapa’a finally won their first game. They beat Lihu’e 10-5 on Sunday in another AJA Baseball showdown at Hanapepe Ball Park.
It was a hard-fought battle from the start. Lihu’e took a 2-0 lead, then Kapa’a topped it at 4-3 in the third. Lihu’e took it back with two runs in the fifth, but Kapa’a fought for another three runs and another lead in the 6th.
Despite four lead changes, Kapa’a was able to hold on. They notched three more runs in the final inning and ran away with their first victory.
Kapa’a’s Owen Koishigawa pitched a complete game and notched the win. Pitchers for Lihu’e were Barry Kawamura and Mikey Cardinez.
For Kapa’a: Ryan Silva slugged three basehits and scored two runs; Robin Lowe had three singles and three RBI’s; Kenderson Caspillo had three hits; Stan Morinaka had three singles.
For Lihue, Dan Tanimoto notched a single, a double and scored three runs; Mikey Cardinez had a double and an RBI; Curtis Sadamitsu smacked a triple, two singles and four RBI’s; and Kevin Mercado, Shane Sadamitsu and Ahren Kaneshiro each had a base hit.
– In game two on Sunday, Makaweli kept up with Hanapepe, tying the game 3-3 in the third inning, and again tied it in the sixth on four runs apiece. Hanapepe would later score two runs to take the lead, but it was short lived. Makaweli cranked in five runs and harnessed a 12-9 lead.
Hanapepe’s Derrick Lincoln slammed a home run at the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough. Makaweli maintained to win.
Scott Shimabukuro, Mike Shimatsu and Russell Nakata took the mound in the win against Hanapepe. The west-siders were led by aces Wendall Nonaka, Russell Ijima and Kelly Robinson.
For Makaweli, Isaac Castillo hit a double, a single and scored twice; Brandon Ishibashi hit a double, a single and drove in three RBI’s; Mike Shimatsu had two hits two runs; Kyle Nakagawa got two hits; Reily Shirai had a double, two RBI’s and one run.
For Hanapepe: Dean Nonaka rapped a triple, a single, and drove in two RBI’s; Vince Nitta notched a basehit, two runs and a stolen base; Wendall Nonaka had three RBI’s on 2 sacrifice flies and a basehit; Leroy Nonaka singled three times and stole three bases; Keith Suga doubled and singled, scored a run and stole a base; and Derrick Lincoln slugged a home run.
