Well, that didn’t take long.
Macy’s West, new owner of what used to be Liberty House across Hawai’i, promised it had some new and exciting things in store and in mind for the 50th state.
A few months after taking over, the chain that is part of Federated Department Stores took Valentine’s Day to announce a year-long promotion to encourage Hawai’i as a wedding and honeymoon destination.
“The Perfect Marriage” joins in wedded bliss the Macy’s Bridal & Gift Registry, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Hawai’i, Aloha Airlines, Budget Car & Truck Rentals and the Hawai’i Visitors & Convention Bureau.
The plan is to provide valuable exposure for Hawai’i wedding- and honeymoon-related businesses, something both the state and Kaua’i Visitors Bureau have keyed on for a few years now.
“Hawai’i has long been a fantasy honeymoon destination for so many people, and with Macy’s recent entry into the islands, it made perfect sense to have the 50th state be the focal point of our annual bridal promotion,” said Shonaree Michael, marketing and promotions manager for Macy’s West Special Services.
“The campaign allows us to promote our newest Macy’s stores in Hawai’i as well as our bridal registry service and, at the same time, will help promote the islands as the ideal place for romance and a dream wedding or honeymoon.”
Through the promotion’s many venues, including in-store events, the gift and bridal registry, newspaper and radio advertisement, direct-mail pieces, and special gift CDs given to brides who register with Macy’s Bridal Registry Consultants, the state’s visitor industry and those in the romance business will gain national exposure, she said.
Naturally, the registry is available online, www.macysweddingchannel.com, and there is a computer in the Kukui Grove Macy’s to register or check if a bride-to-be has registered.
Over 135 Macy’s West stores will participate in the year-long activities.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Hawai’i has properties across the state, including Princeville Resort and Sheraton Kaua’i Resort at Po’ipu. Aloha Airlines and Budget rent-a-car serve virtually every airport in the state.
