HONOLULU – Jasmine Stevenson set up the Kapa’a Warrior girls soccer team for its first lead of the game.
Unfortunately for the Warriors, it would also be their last.
The Kailua Surfriders notched four consecutive points to defeat Kapa’a 4-1 in the first game of the HHSAA State Soccer Championships in Waipio Ball Park.
Kailua’s Anela Gonzales scored twice and Anela Ramelb and Keona Byers added one each for the Surfriders.
In other State soccer games, Aiea scored once in each half and shut out King Kekaulike 2-0 to earn the victory. Kimberly Unten and Amanda Jungblut each got a goal in the win.
Kalaheo beat Hawaii Prep 3-1. The OIA’s second place team beat the BIIF third place team to advance to tomorrow’s quarterfinals. Jenna Tomasa, Tina Garcia, and Lindsey Peck all scored for the Mustangs. Rachel Gleed had the only goal for Hawaii Prep.
Pearl City outshot the Waveriders 29-2 to earn the win. Carmen Calpo, Chante Figueroa and Shayna Egloria each scored once for the Chargers.
