Bill Shiro Umezu, 84 of Waipahu died Feb. 6, at Kapi’olani Medical Center at Pali Momi. Born in Broderick, CA. on Oct. 10, 1917, he was a WWII Veteran who served in the US Army Infantry in Australia and Philippines, and also as translator for the US Army Military Intelligence Service in Japan for 43 years.
He is survived by wife: Yoshie; son Art (Michiru) Umezu of Kaua’i; daughters: Kay of Tokyo; Amy (John) Coe of Waipahu; brothers: Jack (Kiyoko) of Sacramento, CA; Masao (Fumiko) Umezu of Japan; sister: Shizuko (Mikio) Onodera of Japan. 3 grandchildren, numerous relatives in California and Japan.
Services will be held at O’ahu Cemetery and Chapel in Nu’uanu on Feb. 13, from 6:30 p.m. Casual attire is suggested. Inurnment will be at Punchbowl National Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu on Feb. 14, at 11:30 a.m.
