Due to a slippery gym floor caused by condensation, Kapa’a Athletic Director Dwight Fuji called off the Junior Varsity and Varsity games at Bernice Hundley last night, saying the gymnasium was unsafe to play basketball.
Fuji allowed play in the first few minutes of each game, but with a driving rainstorm outside, the Bernice Hundley Gymnasium floor was deemed unplayable by KIF officials after players on both squads slipped and fell on both ends of the court.
Waimea’s Jordon Dizon was the only scorer with six points in the varsity game, which was cancelled with 4:59 left in the first period. The Menehunes (5-0) will have a 6-0 league when the game is resumed at the end of the season.
The junior varsity contest between the Waimea Menehunes (3-2) and Kapa’a Warriors (1-4) was cancelled with 5:54 left in the first period of play with both teams held scoreless after three possesions each.
This junior varsity contest will not be rescheduled.
The Waimea Menehunes travel to Lihue on Friday to take on the league leading Kaua’i Red Raiders (4-2) with the junior varsity contest slated for 5:30 p.m.Despite low seed, Waimea shoots for a Championship in Oahu
