The Wailua Kryptonite had a chance to regain their position on top of the league, but unfortunately they couldn’t muscle up more than a tie against the Westide Afterburners.
Kit Owen rejected the first serious scoring attempt by the Westside, when he headed an open goal attempt out of bounds.
The Afterburners were up by one, following a goal from John Abrews, who beat defender Duncan MacDonald. Eli Emery then assisted in padding the Afterburners lead when his shot ricocheted off the cross bar to the head of brother Leroy Emery.
Just before the end of the first half, Duncan MacDonald cracked a low free kick, and Eddie Adams redirected the shot right into the net.
As the player hit the water bottles at halftime the score was 2-1.
Kaena Mayor scored the only goal during the second half. He received a cherry pass from Rob Sieners, who dribbled through a number of defenders, setting up the tying goal for the Kryptonite. The game ended tie, 2-2.
– Hanalei Soccer Club 0, Anahola Hana Pa Hui 0 –
Neither team seemed to be able to make it past the other’s defense during the Hanalei/Anahola showdown.
With 35-mile an hour winds blowing across the field, the teams could hardly pass to each other, much less score.
Hanalei S. C. had a number of attempts, including a goal-line debacle, in which three players touched the ball on the goal line but couldn’t get it past the goalie for the Hui.
Kaiana Oliver got a break away towards the end of the game, however defender Brad Smith came streaking back to disrupt Kaiana’s shot.
Both teams received a point for their ties so Hanalie S.C. remains in first place by one point.
