KAPAA – The Kapa’a Warriors unveiled an effective zone trap press and aggressive offensive to defeat the Waimea Menehunes and gain their first victory of the season in KIF junior varsity basketball action Friday night, 44-29.
Warrior sophomore forward Ryan Cram led all scorers with 20 points while teammate Jesse Noone added 10. Jeremy Manuel led the visitors with a team-high 7.
Only up by two at the break (19-17) , the Warriors went on a 17-0 run over the next 13:30 to put this one to bed before Manuels successful trey gave Waimea its first points of the second half.
At the seasons halfway mark, the Kauai Red Raiders (3-1) currently sit atop the standings, with Waimea at 2-2 and Kapaa 1-3.
Waimea will host the Red Raiders next Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. at the Clem Gomes Gym.
