The Kalaheo Neighborhood Center was host to the first Kaua’i Youth Basketball series of 2002 on Monday, and began the series with three consequtive 12-under boy’s games.
The Lihue Lakers opened the season with a decisive 44-21 win over the Kapa’a Warriors in the first game. Jordan Cox led all scorers with 13 points for the Lakers, and the Warriors got a boost from Elijah Phillips, who with 10 points scored nearly half of Kapa’a’s points.
The Lihue And 1 pulled out their first win over the Lihue Rebels, 41-35. Scott Taylor led the winning team with 14 points, and Basil Walton scored 16 for the Rebels.
And in the final game, the Kalaheo Pistons 2 notched its first victory over the Kalaheo Pistons 1 – Braxton Parongao scored six points for Pistons 2, Kealoha Lopez scored eight for Pistons 1.
Girl’s 14-under action took place Tuesday night (results for that will appear in upcoming Garden Island issues, with Anahola facing Kaumakani, the Lihue Raiders facing Lihue, and Kapa’a facing the Westside Hornets. These games will take place again at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center gym.
Today, Boy’s 12-under action will include the Westside Hornets against the Lihue Ringahs, Kapa’a 1 versus Kilauea, and Lihue And-1 will face the Lihue Lakers. These games will take place in Kilauea.
Note: First game starts at 6:00 p.m., second game at 7:00 p.m., and the last at 8:00 p.m.
