The American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) held their inaugural Hawai’i’s 5-0, Hawai’i’s 50 Best Design Show” at the Hawai’i Convention Center recently, and Koloa’s Tsunami Marketing won one of the show’s top honors.
Of all the entries, the top 50 where selected as showcase pieces, and five entries were selected and awarded with the competition’s highest honor, The Top Five Award.
Selected to receive one of these Top Five Awards was Tsunami Marketing.
The winning entry was their new self-promotion brochure, entitled “Truth Hurts.” “You really can’t deny the fact that (the piece) is compelling visually and uses lots of conventions that most designers only wish that they could use,” commented Terry Marks, one of the contest judges.
Tsunami Marketing founder and president Robert Rekward accepted the award for the team at the awards ceremony.
“The caliber of the competition was significant,” he said.
“It was very rewarding for our brochure to have been recognized as one of the top five designed pieces in the state.
Many thanks to our incredible staff, and everyone who contributed to the success of the project,” Rekward added.
Only entries designed and printed in Hawai’i were accepted for the show, and Tsunami’s winning entry was shot on Kaua’i by local photographer Gelston Dwight, and printed by Edward Enterprises on O’ahu with their new state-of-the-art press.
“Edward Enterprises is always a dream to work with,” said Tsunami partner Valerie Rekward.
“They want it to be as great as you do, and work with you every step of the way to ensure the highest quality deliverable in the end product,” she said.
The winning works will be touring the state in a traveling exhibition.
