Andrea Alfiler, a 1997 Kapa’a High School graduate, recently earned her third All-American first team selection and the 2001 NAIA Player of the Year award in Womens soccer at Azusa Pacific University in California.
A first team selection during the Cougars’ 1998 NAIA Championship run as well as during the Cougars’ semifinal run the following year, Alfiler is the second Cougar to be named NAIA Player of the Year in the past four seasons, joining 1998 NAIA Player of the Year Kendra Payne.
Alfiler anchored the midfield as the Cougars put together a 17-game winning streak that culminated in a fourth consecutive trip to the NAIA semifinals. An instrumental component to this season’s record setting team, Alfiler, who finished with 7 goals and 6 assists, has been invited to participate in 2002 Umbro Select All-Star Classic featuring the top collegiate women’s soccer players from around the nation.
