Kaua’i’s own No Sand took the 8.0 Sectionals, last weekend, winning the heralded championship from the Sheraton-Kauai and Marriot Tennis courts here on the island.
No Sand 8.0 Team defeated Kauais Imua Aikane 2-1, Maui 2-1, Oahu C 2-1, and With A Little Luck-the Oahu A team that defeated Oahu B, Oahu D and Hilo.
No Sand who was undefeated all season and truly deserve to be called champions. Team members include Captain Ed Renaltner, Carol Surratt, Diane Treskon, Valerie Rekward, Paulette Lum, Brad Klontz, Chris Webster, Ryan Chang, Harold Hasiba and Martin Kahn.
Kauais 7.0 Team Poipu Kai defeated Maui A 2-1, Oahu D 2-1, and Hilo 3-0 and lost to Oahu A 0-3 and Oahu C, Tennis Menace 1-2. Tennis Menace became the 7.0 Ekolu Champions in the finals by defeating Oahu B, Hui Holomua who defeated Kona 3-0, Oahu E 2-1, Oahu F 3-0 and lost to Maui B 1-2.
Kauais 6.0 Team Double Whammy lost to Oahu B 1-2, and Hilo 1-2. Oahu A, Stinger defeated Oahu B Power House 2-1 for the 6.0 Championship.
The Kauai District Tennis Association of the Hawaii-Pacific Section of USTA hosted the Ekolu League Sectional Playoffs this weekend, December 1-2 at the Kiahuna, Poipu Kai, Sheraton-Kauai, and Marriott Tennis Courts. Twenty – eight teams from Hawaii, Maui, Oahu and Kauai played for the honor of being statewide champions in their division for this league. Rain reeked havoc on the first day of the tournament delaying all but the first scheduled 7 AM matches played after 2:30 PM to Sunday morning. Match rules changed to an abbreviated 8 Game Pro set with no ad scoring for the remainder all matches in order to accommodate 2 days of scheduled matches in 1 day of play.
