Kaua’i County Police detectives arrested a man Monday morning suspected of killing Brent “Kerby” Kerr, whose body was found in the bushes fronting the former Coco Palms Hotel in Wailua last Friday.
Officials said William McCrory, 45, was arrested on suspicion of murder in the second degree. He’s scheduled to be arraigned this morning in District Court in Lihu’e.
An investigation is continuing, and possible witnesses were still being interrogated yesterday afternoon.
Detectives had still not disclosed the exact cause of Kerr’s death. Additional details about McCrory also were withheld.
Kerr, who was known to police in Nawiliwili where he was allegedly involved with drugs, was 44 years old.
The two-day investigation which led to the arrest came after a tipster called Crimestoppers, according to Lt. Alvin Seto.
Three possible suspects were detained for questioning late Sunday evening. By yesterday morning, one of them, McCrory, was arrested and booked, authorities said.
The other two people who were questioned were released.
Mel Morris, the Police Department’s chief investigator, credited Lt. Bill Ching’s investigative team and information obtained from a key witness as the critical factors leading to the arrest of McCrory.
Kerr’s death was the second homicide on Kaua’i this year. In late April, a 21-year-old Koloa woman was charged with murder in the death of her newborn infant. She is awaiting a trial.
There were six murders on the island last year.
