Jody Kono, Kaua’i native and the daughter of Jolene and Stan Kono of Lihu’e, was recently named national sales manager for the Hawai’i Convention Center.
In her new position, she is responsible for booking meetings, events and conventions for the west and midwest markets of the United States, and the Japan market.
Kono will also cultivate potential clients, and maintains ongoing relationships with current clients.
She joined the center’s sales and marketing department as sales manager. In that position, she was responsible for offshore and local bookings. Before moving to O’ahu, she worked for Grove Farm Land Corp. as marketing manager for Kukui Grove Center.
A graduate of Arizona State University, she holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing.
Opened in 1998 and managed by SMG, the Hawai’i Convention Center is one of the world’s most progressive meeting facilities, wired with fiber optic cabling, multi-lingual translation stations, satellite and microwave broadcast capability, and video conferencing.
It will host the Hawai’i Tourism Conference later this month, and has won three prestigious Prime Site Awards. It offers over one million square feet of meeting facilities, including exhibit halls, theaters, and expansive conference rooms.
A rooftop tropical garden, glass-encased meeting rooms, giant coconut-tree-lined outdoor function spaces and $2 million Hawaiian art collection make the center a one-of-a-kind functional showcase.
For more information on the center, please call the Hawai’i Visitors and Convention Bureau, 1-808-923-1811, or see www.gohawaii.com or www.hawaiiconvention.com.
