Poipu Rodeo finishes three of six events

Rodeo is heating up.

The CJM Country Stables Series, sponsored by the Hawai’i Tourism Authority and the Kaua’i Economic Development Board, held its third event in a series of six rodeos on June 10, in Poipu.

Points in the series are accumulated by cowboys and cowgirls to determine yearly winners.

Following are the standings through the first three events (event followed by first-place holder and second place):

Poowaiu: Patrick Brun Jr. (20 points); Randall Soares (10)

Barrel Racing 1D: Coralyn Murayama (28); Wendy Tannery (18)

Barrel Racing 2D: Heather Martin (18); Apryl Soares (14)

Open Dally Team Roping: Bruddah Kelekoma (65); Patrick Brun Jr. (51)

Breakaway Roping: Corinna Vasconcellas (20); Coralyn Murayama (16)

No. 7 Dally Team Roping: Bruddah Kelekoma (38); Bobby Aiu (31)

Steer Undercoating: Three-way tie – Apryl Soares (22); Corinna Vasconcellas (22); Coralyn Murayama (22)

Pole Bending: Wendy Tannery (45); Coralyn Murayama (30)

No. 5 Dally Team Roping: Leland Nishek (53); Kurtis Low (28)

No. 4 Dally Team Roping: Leland Nishek (36); Randy Brun (23); Joe Sugai (23)

The next CJM series roping will be held on August 19. The next scheduled rodeo on Kaua’i is the Koloa Plantation Days State Rodeo at the CJM Country Stables July 21-22 beginning at 12 p.m. There will be an $8 entry fee. Rough Stock events will be included.
