Thomas “Tommy” “Shoji” Nakamura of Kalaheo died at Kuakini Hospital on June 3, 2001, at the age of 59.
Born in Hanapepe, Kaua’i, on July 27, 1941, he was a recreation assistant with the County of Kaua’i.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Nakamura of Kalaheo, Kaua’i; one son, Chris (Kristle Pongasi) Nakamura of Wailua; six daughters: Terry (Paul) Kuribayashi of Koloa, Kaua’i, Wendy Nakamura of Ewa, O’ahu, Donrien (Kimo) Doria of Kona, Big Island, Karene (Miles) Kawamoto of Lihu’e, Kaua’i and Kristie-Lyn (Darien) Nonaka of Hanapepe, Kaua’i; 16 grandchildren; his mother, Shelene Fujii of Kalaheo, Kaua’i; one brother: Mamoru (Shirley) Nakamura and Miyoko (Edward) Hashimoto, both of Honolulu, O’ahu; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 3:30 p.m. Friday June 8, at Garden Island Mortuary. Service will be held at 5 p.m. officiated by Pastor Niles Kageyama.
Casual attire is suggested and that flowers be omitted.
James Bandmann
James “Jimmy” Lauani Bandmann, formerly of Lawa’i, died at his home in Thermopolis, Wy. on Saturday, May 19, 2001, at the age of 54.
Born in Lihu’e, on June 8, 1946, he graduated from Kaua’i High School in 1964 and enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served in Germany. Upon his return to Kaua’i he worked as a lineman for Kaua’i Electric.
In 1971, he moved and settled in Roosevelt;, Utah where he worked for Moon Lake Electric. Soon after he was employed by the U.S. government in the Department of Energy as an area lineman supervisor, for 30 years, which took him to Colorado, Arizona, Washington, back to Colorado and Wyoming.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Lalauna Bandmann of Thermopolis; three sons: Keola (Valerie) Bandmann, Darren (Brittney) Bandmann, of Orem, Utah; four daughters: Cajsa (John) Wallwork of Shelton, Wash., Maile Bandmann of Laie, O’ahu; Shara and Nezhona of Denver, Colo.; one brother, John (Edee) Bandmann of Lawai and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Thermopolis on Wednesday, May 23 followed by burial at the Lehi Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 11, at the Lihu’e Lutheran Church at 3 p.m.

Mary Jane Medeiros
Mary Jane Medeiros of Lawa’i, Kaua’i; died at Hale Omao Nursing Home on May 30, 2001, at the age of 58.
An administrator for the state of Oklahoma, she was born June 3, 1942, on Kaua’i.
She is survived by three brothers: Richard (Marilyn) Medeiros of California, Alfred Medeiros of O’ahu, and Robert Medeiros of Lawa’i; two sisters: Madeline Gomes of California and Mary Ann (John) Frias of Lawai; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation has been scheduled for Saturday, June 9, at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 9 a.m. Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. by Father Keahi.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
Robert Barros, Sr.
Robert Silva Barros, Sr. of Koloa, Kaua’i; died June 5, 2001, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, at the age of 61.
Born Nov. 17, 1939, in Honolulu, O’ahu; he was a meat manager for Foodland Market and also served in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife: Lourdes P. Barros; two daughters: Selena Salva and Darlene T. (Michael) Contrades; four sons: Robert S. Barros, Jr., Darryl A. Barros, Jason B. Barros, and Mark M. (Tamara) Barros; one brother: Alfred S. (Victoria) Barros, Jr., one sister-in-law: Ollie Barros; 18 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, June 8, at Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary Chapel in Koloa, from 1:30 p.m.; services to be celebrated at 3 p.m. Inurnment to follow at Kaua’i Memorial Gardens, services to be celebrated by Father Keahi.
