Pedro Soriano
Pedro Guzman Soriano of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on April 9, 2001, at the age of 91.
A retired field supervisor with Lihu’e Plantation, he was born May 3, 1909, in Mapandan, Pangasinan, Philippine Islands.
Pre-deceased by his wife, Juana .C. Soriano, he is survived by two sons: Bernard (Bonnie) Soriano of Sacramento, Calif., and Peter (Marita) Soriano of Los Angeles, Calif.; one daughter: Carmela (Royden) Pablo of Lihu’e, Kaua’i; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Immaculate Conception Church in Kapaia on Friday, April 20, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. A prayer service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Charles Akau
Charles “Charlie” Awana Akau Jr. of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, died at St. Francis Hospital on O’ahu on April 10, 2001, at the age of 70.
Born in Lihu’e, Kaua’i, on Nov 8, 1930, he was a retired U.S. Airforce Serviceman and he also retired from Kaua’i Island Tours as a tour bus driver.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy C. Akau of Lihu’e; two sons, Larry (Katherine) Akau and Charles Awana Akau III, both of Kapa’a; three daughters, Theresa Carol (Wayne) Casil of Tacoma, Wash., Sapphire Winston of Lihu’e and Adrianne Healani Akau of Kapa’a; 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Viewing will be on Friday, April 20, at Lihu’e Christian Church from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with services at 6 p.m. Second day viewing will be on Saturday, April 21, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Hanapepe Veteran Memorial Cemetery Hall with burial to follow.
Stevens Inanod, Sr.
Stevens Namolokama Inanod, Sr. of Hanama’ulu, died at his residence on March 31, 2001, at the age of 60.
Born in Hanalei, Kaua’i on May 30, 1940, he was a Supervising Plumbing Inspector for the County of Kaua’i.
He is survived by his wife: Momilani “Pauline” Kane Inanod of Hanama’ulu; three sons: Stevens (Kama) Inanod, Jr.; Sherman “Laka” Inanod, Sam “Mea Nui” Inanod, all of Hanama’ulu; three brothers: Val (Sandi) Inanod of Kilauea; Julio (Cecilia) Inanod of Kilauea; Wayne “Winky” (Sharon) Inanod of Kapa`a; three sisters: Leonora (Clay) Kelekoma of Anahola; Dolores “Dolly” (Haruo) Watanabe of Kapa`a; Nani (Yoshi) Harada of Wainiha; two brother-in-laws: Durgh (Pomai) Kane; Herman Kane; 3 grandchildren: Kira “Nalani” Inanod of Hanama’ulu; Liana Lopez of Hanama’ulu; Gavin Lopez of Hanama’ulu; one aunt; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, April 21, at Borthwick Kaua’i Mortuary Chapel in Koloa, from 9 a.m. Services to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at the Kaua’i Memorial Gardens.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kaua’i Mortuary.
William Nagaoka
William “Billy” Nagaoka of Hanalei, died at Wilcox Hospital at the age of 75 on Easter Sunday, April 15, 2001.
A retired Kaua’i County road maintenance employee, he was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran who received the Combat Infantrymen Badge for war time action.
Nagaoka is survived by his wife, Alice, and one daughter, Dale (Brad) Leverett of Anahola; and six grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Clorinda (Robert) Nakashima of Kilauea, and Dorothy (Masao) Kaneshiro of Honolulu.
A memorial service over ashes will be held at the Hanalei Pavilion on Friday, April 20. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10:30 a.m. The service will begin at 11 a.m. with Deacon Charlie Spencer of the Hanalei Mormon Church officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Kaua’i Veterans Honor Guard followed by the spreading of ashes in Hanalei Bay. Casual attire is suggested.

William McLaughlin
William “Dr. Mac” McLaughlin of Kapa’a, Kauai, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on April 16, 2001, at the age of 78. Born in Philadelphia, PA on April 27, 1922, he was a retired Physician with Wilcox Hospital.
He is survived by: his wife: Veronica Chong McLaughlin of Kapa’a, Kaua’i; son: Thomas (Machiko) McLaughlin of Honolulu, O’ahu; step-daughter Shelly Rodrigues and Robin (Anthony) Sabatini, both of Kapa’a; one grandchild; sister: Dolores (Frank) Campbell of Placentia, Calif.; numerous niece, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 20, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Kapa’a; Mass officiated by Father Bruce will begin at noon followed by burial at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Casual attire is suggested.
